as Financial Advisor in Mexico Power Group’s (“MPG”) La Bufa 1 “Renewable Generating Project Finance Deal of the Year” in Power Finance & Risk’s
13th Annual Power Finance Deals and Firms Awards.
MPG’s La Bufa 1 Project was also recognized as “Project of the Year” in an award ceremony during the Mexican International Renewable Energy Congress (“MIREC”),
in Mexico City on May 18, an event with an audience of over 1,000 industry participants, representing developers, government agencies, banks, financiers,
investors and suppliers in Mexico’s renewable energy industry.
Marathon Capital acted as exclusive financial advisor to MPG on the equity and debt financing for its 130 MW La Bufa 1 wind project in Zacatecas, Mexico,
consisting of a $212 million 18-year senior loan as well as subordinated debt.
First Reserve is MPG’s equity partner on the project which will supply Volkswagen de Mexico’s assembly factory in Puebla with generation under a 20-year
power purchase agreement. SMBC led the construction and term loan bank group, along with Nacional Financiera and Korea Development Bank. Bancomext
provided VAT and letter of credit facilities.
