Meet Jen Zhao
Jen Zhao is the Chief of Staff at Marathon Capital. Ms. Zhao’s role is to develop the Internal Strategy and Research function to serve firm-wide business needs. She serves as an integrator connecting different industry coverage and product lines, a communicator helping link the leadership team, the senior banking team, junior bankers and the broader organization, and an innovator to help jump-start new firm initiatives.
Ms. Zhao also serves as the manager of Marathon’s junior banker program. She works with the Staffer and Training Lead and the Operations team to provide well-rounded and appropriately customized experiences to junior bankers and coaches junior bankers’ career development. She works with the HR department to coordinate the junior banker recruiting efforts to identify and recruit top candidates with diverse backgrounds.
Ms. Zhao joined Marathon in 2017 as an Associate and was promoted to Vice President in 2019. She played key roles on solar, wind, and competitive retail mandates serving LS Power, Goldwind, Hanwha, Heelstone, and Asian and European energy strategics. Prior to joining Marathon, Ms. Zhao was an investment banking associate with Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Power and Utilities practice in New York, where she was a Top Performer of the 2016 Global Banking & Markets Entry Training Program. Before business school, Ms. Zhao conducted research at the World Resources Institute, a leading environmental and energy think tank in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Zhao received her BA in History and International Studies from Peking University, China, her MA in International Affairs from George Washington University, and her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Ms. Zhao holds her Series 24, 63 and 79 licenses.
